Sea turtles return to Samoa island after decades as rats and pigs are removed

The ecosystem of Nu'utele Island is flourishing thanks to successful conservation strategies that eliminated invasive species. This revitalization has enabled native flora to rebound, supporting local farmers in sustainable crop cultivation. The eradication of predatory species has also facilitated the revival of native birds, while sea turtles have finally returned to lay their eggs on the island’s shores after years of absence.
