Brazil's Amazon deforestation hits record low: Why it matters amid election battle

Brazil's Amazon rainforest has achieved a remarkable milestone, showing its lowest annual deforestation at just 3,335 square kilometres, dropping by 41.8 percent from last year's figure of 5,731 square kilometres. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's ambitious goal to halt illegal logging by 2030 underscores a strong political commitment to preserve this vital ecosystem, which plays a crucial role in climate stability and global environmental health.
